About the Wine

Wonderful, aromatic fizz. Roberto makes all of his sparkling wine in the traditional method, meaning the wine is refermented in the bottle under closure to trap the bubbles. No sugars or selected yeasts are added to achieve this; in a walk-in fridge in the cellar Roberto keeps a supply of grape must - basically raw grape juice kept at this low temperature to stop it from fermenting. Once in the bottle it gets to work! This wine has that delicious, zesty lime cordial and rose blossom nose you'd expect from the grape with a cutting, refreshing white grapefruit zing to the palate, and clean, salty finish. There's some lovely, balanced depth from the lees contact, as another of Roberto's little touches is to disgorge the bottles to order, meaning the later in the season the wine is shipped the longer it sits on the lees, resulting in subtle additional depth as the wine develops over the year.

About Quarticello

From his family’s vineyards in Montecchio Emilia, Roberto Maestri makes a handful of sparkling wines which embody everything we love about the region. Uplifting, nourishing wines which are endlessly refreshing, made with good times and good meals in mind. These sparklers make so much sense on the table next to hunks of salumi and cheese.

Roberto began in the early 2000’s and now farms 10 hectares of vines planted on clay-gravel soils. The focus here is on local varieties such as Spergola, Malvasia di Candia and Malbo Gentile, along with many kinds of LambruscoThis is as traditionally Emilia-Romagnan as you can get! In the vineyard, Roberto follows biodynamic principals and immense care is taken to ensure the upmost respect for nature. In the cellar, the sparkling wines are all made the traditional way, using only wild yeasts and with second fermentation taking place in bottle.
